Poultry Tales – an extraordinary way of telling 3 well-loved stories!

I have been a fervent supporter of local children productions . Normally, I feel very happy coming out from a children theatre production/musical  as they always end with a sweet note but not for Poultry Tales. It is not because the show wasn’t good in fact it has far exceeded my expectations (see my full review below) but because of the announcement by Brian Seward , director at I Theatre at the end of the show announcing that Poultry Tales will be the last production for I Theatre as a major grant that has been subsidizing I Theatre will no longer available. The remaining two shows that were lined up for this year will not go on and he is hoping to be able to obtain funding, donation and to streamline the cost of I Theatre so that they could be back next year.

I have done my part at the show by dropping my donation at the box after the show. Here are other ways to donate. http://itheatre.org/index.php/donate_sponsor/

There is a dollar for dollar marching grant under the Cultural Matching Fund. So do donate generously to keep this local production company around. It really saddens me if my younger kids will no longer be able to attend I Theatre productions like what the older 2 kids had done in the past few years.

The above is one reason why you should support Poultry Tales as it may be the final I Theatre’s production. That said, Poultry Tales has outdone itself by showing the audience the world of the Theatre Stage from the inside out –  a totally new concept. I have been to many local children productions and this has to be one of the most memorable as it is a show within a show and a production within a production.

We often walk into to the theatre seeing a beautiful set stage with backdrop. It was not the case for Poultry Tales. The stage looked half setup with boxes piiling, lightings not at its correct position, racks for costumes still on stage. I was intrigued!

looks like we walked into a set not a stage

The show started with 4 stage crew narrating the need to setup up the stage in 1 hour for their upcoming  show – Poultry Tales. The stage manager, assistant stage manager and 2 interns introduced the audience to the back stage world that we never get to see.

Did you know that props is the short form for property? Props that are used by the actors are called hand props. Did you know what are fly bars, legs, cyclorama, flat etc?  The stage crew even explained how the costumes were sewn so that it is easy to put on and remove! The audience got a short introduction and appreciation of the world of the back stage in that short 1 hour production and still get entertained by 3 short stories!

Initially, I didn’t plan to bring big J along thinking that this musical is based on simple stories that only my younger kids will enjoy. It was a last minute decision to bring big J along due to logistic but I was glad that he came along as he was  exposed to the on-going  of the backstage to a theatre productions.

How the 3 stories – Chicken Licken, The Goose that Laid Golden Eggs and  The Little Red Hen were interweaved  by the  4 back stage casts and how the half-made up stage was used to narrate that 3 stories were simply ingenious.

As the stage crew were playing with the masks they found in the boxes, they took turn to narrate the story of Chicken-Licken. And basically let us know that even with 4 actors playing 6 roles, with use of masks, this can be achieved on stage!

narrating Chicken-Licken

Then the stage was cleared and finally the stage backdrop was used to stage the next story – The Goose that laid the golden eggs where the greed of tavern’s owners made them kill the goose and they ended up with naught.

The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs

The final story shows the hidden desire of Maggie, the stage manager to the star of the show and she starred as The Little Red Hen. Her friends have denied helping her many a times and when she finally has something good to share, the audience agreed that The Little Red Hen shouldn’t be so nice to them as well!

The Little Red Hen

The Little Red Hen

The younger kids may not be able to appreciate the back stage introduction part of this production but they are certainly not left out in this musical as they will thoroughly enjoy the stories segment of the musical. These are stories they would have heard at bedtime or in school. Small J’s favourite was The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs. The 3 stories were kept short and there is no short of slap stick comedy to entertain the younger audience. Like always, all 3 stories will end with the moral of the story.

The cast did an excellent job introducing the audience to the world of the back stage as stage crew, being actors of the 3 short but well-loved stories and were excellent singers to this musical too! It was the perfect show for my family for the long labour day weekend.

As always, do not miss the meet and greet after the show! You have to catch this production as it has exceeded my expectation of a local children production and it maybe I Theatre’s last production for a long time to come.

Giveaway: Not your run-of-the-mill car cleaning workshop – EA Detailer terminates pest and sanitises the car (promo code included)

What do I know about servicing or cleaning of car? I only “use” the car to ferry the kids from point A to point B. I don’t even keep track about whether there is enough petrol , air in tyres or enough value in cash card for ERP or parking but I am very concerned about the appearance of little cockroaches in the car.

We had the same problem for our first car which lasted us 10 good years. During the final years when the car ferried 3 young kids, the size of the cockroaches were huge, we only do occasional vacuuming and the problem has never resolved.

When we  bought our new car 2 years ago, we VOWED to take good care of it by reducing the instances of the kids eating in the car, however it is unavoidable sometimes when the baby wants his milk, he WANTS his milk. During our road trips to Malaysia, we cannot avoid feeding kids some food as it is not convenient to stop just to snack.  Now the car is into its 3rd year and little roaches have found its way and if we do not do something about it , the problem like what we had for our first car will appeared.

TIP NO # 1

Did you know that cockroaches will find its way into the car even if there is ZERO eating in the car. I was told by the representative by EA Detailer even if there no eating in the car, cockroaches are attracted by food smell if the passengers packed food home, or if the car is parked near garbage areas or basement car parks.

So a TIP for my readers, do have a tin of air freshener in the car, once you have taken the packed food out from the car,to remove the smell by a few spritzs of air freshener after removing the packed food from the car.

When I came to know the existence of anti pest fumigation for car, I am very intrigued. There are not many companies which deliver this service in Singapore , EA Detailer is one of the few. I have zero interest about polishing of car and servicing but I am deeply concerned about the cleanliness of the interior of the car as my kids are passengers of the car and how to improve and to put it bluntly, kill all the roaches!

So our family car went for a 6 hour “spa” treatment –  not just for the exterior polishing shine but anti pest, anti viral and anti mold deep clean of all possible nook and corner of the car.

This was what greeted me when I reach the workshop – this is for first timer to ensure that we find the correct spot to park before a representative does an assessment of the car – take “before” photo of the car and to identify existing scratches and dents.

In the waiting area, there are NERF guns for those who came with kids and a comfortable plush sofa and an adult racing carseat for those who wish to kill time at the showroom. Else EA Detailer also provide ferry services to vicinity area for customers to drop off their car and to pick up the car thereafter.

This is the state of my car before the session. He told me that it is unusual for my car to have many scratches on the bonnet of the car – I do not have a single clue what could have caused this.

Even before the fumigation has started, we discovered  these!!

4 stage stage purification (SGD369)

Stage 1: Bio fumigation – use non toxic mist , the mist is released into the closed interior of the car and kept in for 30 minutes. This process will ensure that 80% of the cockroaches will be exterminated. To do a full 100% extermination, they advise to come for another round of fumigation 2 weeks later as the car owners will witness the leftover cockroaches within the next 1 to 2 days after fumigation. The representative assured me that the fumigation mist use is safe for children and pet and there will be an ozonic process later which will get rid of the smell and purify the air in the car.

Stage 2: Hydro extraction vacuum , if you are familiar with Rainbow vacuum cleaner, instead of using the conventional dust bags vacuum clear. The Rainbow uses Mother Nature’s most powerful element, WATER, to trap dirt and odours, returning only naturally clean, water-washed air to your car interior. This unique water filtration system captures 99.997% (by weight) of typical household dirt. Remaining microscopic particles are caught by HEPA Neutralizer Filtration System. This two-stage filtration combination removes nearly 100% of dirt and contaminants.

steam and Rainbow vacuum cleaner

Stage 3: Sanitization, Using Hospital Grade Disinfectant-  Legionella- X  (a product from Canada) which has been certified by Singapore General Hospital, the disinfectant used is proved to be of 99% effective against viruses like HFMD .

Stage 4: Steam vapourizing  – this stage using water at 65 to 70 degree Celsius to kill dust mites on fabric area of the car including the inner roof, floor board, car boot area and for car seats which are made of fabric.  The most important benefit of vapouring is that no chemical is used in the whole process; the effect is achieved with boiling water only.

There will be a release of O3 ozonic treatment to purifying the air in the car especially important after fumigation and to purify the air that is coming out from the air-conditioning. So during this process, the air conditioning will be left switch on for 15 minutes during the ozonic treatment. Besides purifying the air, ozone kills germs, viruses including H1N1, H7N9,HFMD, E.Coli, Salmonella, MSRA, Staph, etc. This equipment is also used in hospitals, clinic, hotels and airplanes.

Besides that, all leather parts of the interior of the car will cleaned and polished using Sonax leather care foam.

TIP NO #2

For readers who want to try out the anti pest fumigation service, you should clear the car of all your belongings EXCEPT baby/toddler car seats. EA Detailer will also assist to clean the car seat by steaming and sanitizing the car seats as well. There is no point by cleaning the interior of the car but leaving the car seats untouched as the dirt/dust and insects trapped in the baby/toddler car seats will attract new colony once they are placed back into the clean car.

3-stage Exterior Glow (SGD 219)

These exterior cleaning stages will be more familiar to many daddies out there.

Stage 1 : Foam washing  – the typical of what you see at run-of-the mill car washing workshop, this is done concurrently when the anti fumigation mist is sealed in the car for half hour

Stage 2: Claying – it’s a special cloth to clean away impurities on the car (to me it’s a bit like sandpaper but a more delicate kind, scrubbing if I want to put it in spa terms)

Stage 3: Compound polishing – there are 3 stages to this stage as well, starting with the heaviest cut using polishing buffer that you see at car polishing workshop, followed by the finest and finally a wax shine which is a coating of sealant. This coat of sealant is the one that give the sparkle and shine but it does more than looking nice. With the sealant, it will repels water beads and reducing water mark effects. However, this will only last 1 month or two. For car owners who wish to go for a longer term coating, they can look into glass coating which can protect the car from stratches and protect the car’s original lacquer/paint which comes at an additional cost.

They will also give the engine bay a wipe without the use of car or water as it may damage the engine.

And finally the tyres and rim will also be given a shine! There is no nook or corner which they do not cover, hence I guess that is why the term “detailing” is used and as part of the their brand name as well. And if you remember about the scratches on the bonnet of unknown cause, as they were not deep scratches , the compound polishing did its magic to clear most of the scratches.

For the car seat, they stripped the fabric and clean all the inner part and steam and sanitize the fabric. I am guilty of not doing this on a more regular basis on my own as I always have huge difficulty stripping and putting back the fabric on the baby car seat. There is no additional cost attached especially for big family of mine, I had 4 car seats to be cleaned at the same time!

Finally before handing over the car back to the client, the car will be driven into the air-conditioned comfort of the workshop where the representative will go through what has been cleaned and if there is any small gap or corner that has been missed out. All I can say is that I am very impressed by the level of service and details they go. They clearly are doing this for the benefits of family who owned cars in Singapore to ensure that they have a peace of mind by exterminating the pest and killing virus and bacteria.

This is a very lengthy 4 to 6 hours process of cleaning the car from car roof to car tyres. Most importantly for parents or mummies who do not know much about car and engines, the interior of the car where normal vacuuming would not be able to achieve that level of cleanliness and anti pest and anti viral state , this is one process I would like to see it done on a regular basis. The representative from EA Detailer suggest the interior anti pest cleaning should be done 6 monthly to ensure not recurrence of cockroaches in the car.

This was the very first time I actually contributed to the maintenance of the family car. This is the very first time I brought the car to a workshop as I am often intimated  by all the jargons and engine parts. There is nothing complicated about the interior cleaning  – it is a very specific  and niche cleaning services to ensure that all pests in the car will be exterminated to create a clean and virus free environment. I am impressed by the many levels and many types of products used throughout the service. Even though I have explained it as a 4 stage interior and 3 stage exterior process, to me there are definitely more than 10 steps to achieve this!

The level of detailing is unparalleled. For most vacuuming done at regular car washing workshop, they only remove the rubber mat to vacuum. EA Detailer has also stripped the fabric mat before doing the steaming and hydro vacuuming on the floorboard. And what I had hoped to achieve, extermination of the cockroaches in the car! The picture below has to be shown as part of my review and the final picture of my review  and the single sole reason for bringing the car to EA Detailer.

not to proud to declare but the bottom 2 stripes came was by my family car – there were definitely more than 20 of tem

Thank you, EA Detailer for giving me the opportunity to contribute to cleanliness of the family car to ensure the health and well-being for the VIPs of my car – ie my 4 precious kids.

Sudio Regent – in the class of its own

I am never into headphone and earphone. I see it as as functional but never fashionable. Ever since I had my first Sudio Vasa Bla , my life has “changed”. Ok change is maybe a little too strong of a word, but I can’t imagine doing my evening jog without my Sudio  Vasa Bla wireless earphones or when I am at the gym.

If you have been following my blog, you would have read my review for the Sudio Vasa Bla. One of my greatest pet peeve was my earphone cords always get tangled up. So with Vasa Bla, I would never have such a problem. At the point of that review, I was only using the Vasa Bla for my daily MRT commute to watch K drama. It was at the same point when I started using the Vasa Bla, I  took up running on a more serious note especially after I was selected to join Great Eastern Women’s Run’s Run to Live Great programme to motivate non-runners like me to pick up running as a sports. My journey as a runner requires an entire blog post dedicated to my new hobby, however I will only do that once I have achieved a significant milestone. I have been running regularly for the past 6 months.

With my Vasa Bla, I can even watch K drama on the threadmill without cord dangling all over. I do jogs in the evening as running on threadmill and actual road is different, and I love having Spotify streamed while I jog/run. So the Vasa Bla is my running’s company especially on days when my husband doesn’t pace me during my evening jog. I also have Runkeepers apps stream to myearphones to track my distance and to remind me my pace and distance throughout my run.

I can’t really imagine my life without my Vasa Bla especially since I have been more actively working out. Sudio has  played a big part of my “transformed” life.

And when the next beauty from Sudio launched in Dec 2016, I know I had to try it.

Wireless headphone with interchangeable covers…..

Wow…is an understatement.

As you know I am not an audiophile and unable to do any technical review about sound quality etc. I will review based on how Sudio Regent has benefited me and my other half.

Ok, I will be very honest, I was not the first person who used the Sudio Regent. My husband loves his music before his bedtime as a form to unwind after hectic day at work and at home (it gets a little crazy with 4 at home). He had headphones prior to Sudio Regent but they are all not cordless. So when I saw him using it, I knew he is a Sudio convert. The Bluetooth pairing is the same as the Sudio Vasa Bla. Just 3 buttons side of the headphone, 2 to control the volume and the middle button being the power button. It is really idiot proof –  ie dont really need to read the manual to learn how to pair it.

Finally, I manage to pry the Sudio Regent away from my husband. Truth to be told, I have never really use headphone before and the Sudio Regent is my first. I do not have a point of comparison for this review. Besides being very fashionable , it is comfortable on the ears and the quality of the music streams to the ears is crystal clear. Just like my Sudio Vasa Bla, it is cordless, hence I won’t get into tangled cord position. It has a much longer battery life than the Sudio Vasa Bla, up to a good 24 hours. I am using Android-based smartphone, with Vasa Bla I am unable to see the battery life  on my smartphone but I can see the battery life of the Sudio Regent on my smartphone though.

As part of the package, the Sudio Regent also comes with a cord for times when you need to use it when the battery runs low but this is not my preferred option as one of my greatest pet peeve is to have tangled cord and wire.

I must say music streamed from headphone and earphone is different. The music streamed from headphone is indeed more superior as compared to that of earphone. It has a more surrounded sound effec tjust like in the theatre. I believe the Sudio Regent is especially good for movie watching at home. Now, I prefer to watch my Kdrama at home using the Sudio Regent over the Vasa Bla due to the superior sound quality. However, I do find it a tad too big to be brought out for my MRT commute.

So, Sudio Regent will be my headphone for home and Sudio Vasa Bla for my commutes and my runs. I am thankful how the Sudio products have changed my quality of life. It started with my search for find cordless earphones which has lead me to be acquainted to the Sudio brand and how I have been a Sudio convert. And now my husband is a convert too!

Sudio Regent is available in two colours, black and white which retails at SGD 229.

Quote mypreciouzkids for a 15% discount (there is a instant 20% tax rebate on checkout) which adds up to a total discount of 32%.

For a limited time only, for every purchase of Sudio earphone, there is a free white marble handphone case, which is a matchy accessory with the Sudio Regent!

Its come with free shipping always which only takes 3 to 5 days for the beauty arrive in Singapore. Every unit comes with a 1 year warranty.

There are also accessories like caps to change the look and feel of the Sudio Regent. I had a hard time choosing between the white or black Sudio Regent. I even had a harder time using the caps to accessorise my Sudio Regent. It was a love at first sight once I saw my chosen combi –white Sudio Regent with the blue Selva Azurro caps. I guess whatever the combination, it is a fashion statement and yet a very functional headphone!

I had the privilege of bring the beauty on board my recently c0ncluded cruise, and it lasted through my 5 day 4 night cruise without needing to do recharge! That’s my #sudiomoment!

Super popular Korean multifunctional bags -Blessing For You now launched in Singapore

In the past,we rarely hear of baby products from Korean. Ok, there was one particular range of baby product which Koreans has dominated since the time I had my first child back in 2009 –  playmats. The quality of Korean playmat are unparallel, except for discolouration, my soon to be 8 year old play mat is still good and very much in use and the ONLY baby product that has lasted so long and has such a long useful life!

When I had my first child in 2009, most products are from the US. However, in recent years, baby related products from Korean are the mainstay. From breast pumps , teething products, baby food, strollers etc, you can find very good and competitive priced baby products from Korea – functional and fashionable too.

I even invested in a Korean brand breast pump for my no 4 in when my US brand breast pump called it a day after serving me for 5 years as it was competitively priced and I have heard good reviews on it. Hence, I have not hesitated when it comes to buying baby related products from Korea.

Recently I also did a review for the another Korean talking playmat Yelly Mat , you can read it here.

So when I saw that there is anew range of diapers bag, adults and kids bags and accessories from Korea, I have no qualms on trying as I “knew” the quality will be good. Its just first impression but I shall have to try it for myself. Named Blessing For You (“BYF”), I was told that the brand of bags is very popular with the mothers in Korea and also featured in KBS Superman Returns. The bags and accessories comes in more than 6 different prints and more than 10 models including accessories.

It is currently exclusively distributed by my favourite baby products vendor – Thelittleonesinmylife.

For all the prints they have carrying, I am totally in love with Raccoon star – raccoon, maple leaves and trees.  All the prints that they have I feel are gender neutral  hence, your other half would not complain when they are carrying the bag.

I am so so lucky to be one of the first few mummies in Singapore to try the Bless Hub model in Raccoon star print. I have lost count the number of diaper bags that I owned before. I had a Kate Spade, Skip Hop and most recently the super popular JuJuBe bags. So I guess I have tried my fair share of diaper bags for 4 kids over 8 years to give this newly introduced Korean brand in Singapore an unbiased and fair review.

BYF have the same print for the different models of the bags and accessories they carry. I like to match everything up so I can to be pulling up similar print accessories from the main diaper bag. This concept appeals to me very much as I am love everything that comes in a series.

Compared to many years ago where diaper bags are merely functional and not fashionable, time has changed. Diaper bags are also fashion statement among the mummy communities just like handbags, there are mummies who only has 1 kids but numerous diaper bags –  different prints and models for different occasion – fashionable and functional.  Nowadays many of these bags have a second life lease of life after their days as a true blue diaper bags are done and dusted – just multifunctional bags for travelling or a full day out with kids. Gone are the days when diaper bags are being thrown to cold storage once we passed the diapering and milk bottle stage of the child.

The series from BYF aim to do just that. From first glance, you wouldn’t think of it as a diaper bag as it surely don’t look like one.  One of the best ways to review a diaper bag is to have packing videos/photos. So here goes….

The outside

Made from oil cloth material (similar to apron ) it is waterproof and light weight. Dirt don’t get on it easier and if it does, it get cleaned very easily too. The padding on the back of the bag are netted hence it doesn’t feel hot from using it outdoor. The straps are padded as well hence, you will not feel that the bag and its weight is cutting into your shoulder.

The inside

The inner lining is made from polyester. With extra netted pockets surrounding all sides of the bags, there is sufficient compartment for all that you want to bring out.

There is also a key strap so that you will never have to rummage through your backpack to find the elusive housekeys!

Using it

At first glance it is a very boxy bag. After packing it up, it is a lot roomier than I would have thought. As the weight of the bag is very light, after packing it all in, it probably weight less than 1 kg with 2 full size water bottles and a full 350ml thermos flask.

My typical going out items are diapers, spare charge for my  youngest, a jacket for my youngest, 2 water bottles (shared by 4 kids as I can’t bring 4 bottles out), wet wipes, milk bottle, flask, milk powder container, diaper changing mat and some snacks to “subdue” the baby if we are out for a long meal.

Here is how I packed it all in my latest diaper bag!

I had my milk bottle, milk powder container , thermoflask on the smaller netted compartment while my wet wipes pouch goes into the biggest netted compartment.

For the water bottles, there is a choice whether to place it inside the bags for an uncluttered look or outside for easy reach. I preferred that the older kids’ shared water bottle is on the outside so that they can easily help themselves with it while the baby’s bottle is inside.

I even pop a change mat that I owned at the “extra” compartment where the back pack shoulder straps are cleverly hidden”. I will show you more of that “extra compartment”  later as it is my favourite feature of the bag. Instead of a change mat, you can easily pop into the ezpz mini mat or a thin book, stickers book etc.

On the two outside compartment , I have my extra pack of wipes and also my huge LGV20 handphone

What’s inside the matchy wet wipes pouch

I like to have an extra pouch where can pull out to bring along for diaper changes in 1 go. So small C’s 2 spare diapers, spare change and a small tube of diaper cream goes inside this pouch. As it is a 2-compartment pouch, the wipes has its own exclusive compartment with an inbuilt wipe lock. Ingenius, how lazy mummies like me do not even need to pull the wipes out of the pouch, just flip the lock.

The pouch also come with a detachable long strap so that the pouch can function as a small slingbag for short outings. So I also tried to packed in my super humongous wallet and super big handphone and it fits to the T. I don’t think there are bigger wallets and handphones out there than the one I carry 😛

I would have preferred if the pouch also came with a shorter strap to convert into a wristlet for a more versatile carry but that said this is the roomiest sling/clutch bag that i owned so I will be using this for my short trip out with or without the kids.

What I really love

I love that this bag is very versatile that can be carried as a shoulder bag or a backpack depending on the occasion and how much you have packed. If you have packed it to the brim, you have to use it as a back pack. The two shoulder pads can be cleverly hidden in the extra compartment at the back of the bag.

The size is made to suit the Asian frame as it is made for the Korean market. It is just nice for me , small frame and me being all 152cm tall. It doesn’t looking I am carrying an oversize back for my small frame. Hence, due to the compact size, it doesn’t feel that it is bulky or heavy. Check out the range at

Blessing For You

Do check out the many bag models and accessories by BYF. They even have the cutest baby bags, totes and accessories. So it is not just for the mothers who are still at the diaper bags stage but family with young kids.

Little Passports – Science Expeditions (latest !)

Previously big J and big C had reviewed the World Edition and Early explorers. You can find my review post here. In last quarter 2016, Little Passport launched their first science based subscription box – Science expeditions targeted at kids age 9 and above. Even though none of my kids have not crossed the recommended age, they were most curious and intrigued by the box that came by post. All kids love mails in the mail box. There isn’t a right age to start kids with science as there are science in everything they do. The younger ones may not be able to appreciate the reading materials that came with the subscription by my 8 year old can but their level of enthusiasm in participating in the experiments were no less than big J. So on weekend when we are having our down time at home and it has been raining and we were forced to stay indoors, instead of bumming around, I will bring out the home science kit and do it with my older 3 kids as part of family bonding too! I can also tell

First month’s pack:  Forensic Science.

Besides the essentials for the topic of the month, in the first box come a very roomy bag to keep all the experiment equipment for future month’s projects and also a journal to log down or draw your observation going forward.

Each month’s pack comes with 3 experiments. One of the experiments in the first month’s pack is to analyse on your fingerprint. The kids came to realise that every individual has unique fingerprint and forensic investigator using fingerprints to identify the guilty party.

Each month’s pack also comes with a 16-page magazine with comic-based stories to further increase understanding of the topic of the month.

Parents will also have access to online video. I find this most useful as my kids are more visual so they can to have an idea of the experiments before embarking on their own.

Second month’s pack:Caves and Crystals

Crystal is being introduced in this month’s pack. And what make science as interesting as it can get by growing your own crystal at home.

As part of this month’s topic, the pack also cover stalactites and stalagmites. I never could remember which comes from the floor and which comes from the ceiling. And finally after returning all my knowledge to the science teachers, there is an easy way to remember.

Stalactites has a C in it and Creeps down from the Ceiling.

Stalagmite has a G in it and Grows up from the Ground.

Ingenius! If only i knew this method of remembering in school, I wouldn’t had such a hard time differentiating the two during Science class. This month’s pack came with two experiments, one is to form stalactite and one is to form stalagmite.

growing your own crystal at home

a page from this month’s magazine

Third month’s pack: Northern lights

I am most excited about this part personally as going to see the Northern Lights is on my bucket lists.  As this phenomenon does not happen in my part of the world, my kids are unable to appreciate or relate to this. Hence, firstly I had shown them photo of the Northern Light as witnessed by people living in the Finland, Ireland etc.

As the box is reused for this experiment, I need to ensure that the kids doesn’t rip the box opened prior to the experiments. I also think this is the MOST interesting experiment from the kids’ perspective too as there is light effect.

The Aurora in the box experiment is the most fun experiment by far. Actually this month theme on magnetism is also most interesting as the kids dabble in magnet and electromagnet. Little Passports Science expedition comes in monthly, 6 or 12 months subscription. You can subscribe through this link

You dont have to wait for your kids to turn 9 to enjoy this latest subscription from Little Passports. I would say primary 1 and primary 2 kids will be able to appreciate and have early introduction to science and science experiments at the comfort of home and it is also excellent family bonding on weekend when its raining cats and dogs or simply too hot to venture outdoors!

A Peter Rabbit Tale- a light and heart warming tale

The risk of watching a play with unfamiliar storyline is that you worry that the kid may not be able to comprehend, follow, lose focus etc. My kids are not familiar with Peter Rabbit, though its an Old Classic so I had to borrow the books from the library just to familiarize the kids with the characters in Peter Rabbit.

What I can say is even if they are not familiar with the characters in Peter Rabbit, the younger kids will be able to appreciate the different animals featured in A Peter Rabbit Tale and the moral behind the story.

A fairly straight forward storyline revolving the life of Peter Rabbit with his sisters and mother. They were tasked to clean the house while the mummy was away and were told not to leave home. Peter Rabbit was clearly not happy doing the cleaning and wanted to go out and try a different life.

So he went out to try to life the lives of other animals.
First, he met Benjamin Rabbit at Mr McGregor’s vegetable patch. As they were feasting with all the fresh vegetables, they bumped into Mr McGregor himself and was chased out.

Peter Rabbit met the squirrels and wanted to learn the life of a squirrel but he failed as he couldn’t climbed trees and was frightened by the owl when they were out picking nuts.

Next, Peter met the mice who sew for the tailor. But Peter Rabbit also couldn’t even put the thread into the needle and was frightened by the house’s cat.

Then, Peter met Mrs Tiggy Winkle , the hedgehog who talked some sense into Peter who came to realize that he actually misses home and there is no place better than home. The antics and character of Mrs Tiggy Winkle was well liked by the adults especially, brute and loud but really wise.

Every story has a good ending and A Peter Rabbit Tale is no different when Peter Rabbit reunites with his family.
My kids were able to follow the storyline despite being unfamiliar with it. It was a heartwarming tale to watch as a family. Despite a new cast and new music, A Peter Rabbit Tale has all the winning formula of an TLC productions with catchy songs and a strong cast.

The Wonderful World of Disney on Ice 2017 – another magical night to remember

My husband asked me why are we watching Disney on Ice again and again. I am sure many mummies get the same questions from daddies too. To many daddies, it’s the same old same old. Well, I do agree with him to a certain extent, Mickey and his friends are always there, some characters are always there and some new faces but the underlying performance ie the ice skating remained the same.

However, there are many families especially mummies who are fixated with Disney characters and who doesn’t mind bringing the family year in year out. I belong to that category of mummy.  It is like no one ever get bored of going to Disneyland right? It is the same for me and my kids. We do not get bored of this. It’s a once in a year affair. We don’t get to do Disneyland annually but I do hope that we get to do this as we do not have to fly out of Singapore to experience some Disney magic even if it is just for 1 night. It is like adults going to watch a rock concert or a musical productions. This is the kids version and it still appeals to some kidadults like me.

I believe this is my 4th show since I starting watching in 2013 – my photo proof..of coz the boys went to, but they are always dressed in mickey mouse t shirt year after year. I think there was a year that Disney on Ice didn’t come to Singapore but I generally have weaved into our family calendar unless I am travelling. March school holidays is only 1 week long , hence we generally do not travel as it is too short.

Last year was by far the best show as it was the first year featuring the cast of Frozen for the very first time. I got all goosebumps watching that one song..no prizes for guessing which song I am referring to.

For this year’s edition entitled The Wonderful World of Disney on Ice, the organizer knows what sells and what is better than the entire cast of Frozen for all the little girls who wants to be Elsa or Anna. Even after the movie debuted more than 4 years ago, it is showing no signs of losing its popularity. The matter of fact, big C insisted on a Frozen theme birthday when she turned 6 in February this year.

dressed as Belle as its Beauty and the Beast fever now

With high expectations from last year’s show , this year’s show has big shoes to fill. I always love Lion King as the movie and also we watched it once as a theatre musical productions at MBS (side note, it will be coming back to Singapore I heard next year!) Mostly recently, we watched the Lion King performance at HK Disneyland and we can’t get enough of all the majestic animals in the Circle of Life. I watched Lion King during my teenage years, yes it is a 20 odd year old animation. The show started with the songs from Lion King and I knew that we were off to a great start especially for the bigger boys in the crowd.

Then we had the princesses one by one from Snow White, Ariel to Rapunzel though I missed the floating lanterns from last year. The princesses segments were kept shorter so that there are more contents for the boys in the house..from the cast of Toy Story to Finding Dory which was the opening for the second half.

Mummies of boys rejoice! For the first time, Dory made its first ice skating debut. Dory was huge last year when the movie premiered. Small J was having Dory fever for the longest time, and was over the moon seeing the character from the movie at Disney on Ice. The skaters mimic the swimming moves very well too.

And saving the best for the last is Frozen. Fans of Anna, please do not missed this year’s show as Anna was prominently featured in this year’s production maybe even more than Elsa. Olaf too has lots of air time this year and Elsa was as mesmerising as last year! Even though she was dressed as Belle but she is Elsa in her heart. She even asked to be called Elsa after the show!

I liked that there is a mixture of the new animations- Finding Dory and old animations –Lion King. As for for the finale as most apt, the one that all girls and their mummies were waiting for and little boys who are fans of Olaf ,(actually small J also loved the song Let it Go very much too) -Frozen. Shall not delve too much into it, please catch it yourself as not words or pictures can described our once in a year magical night.  As always there is something for everyone maybe more so for the boys this year. If you were to asked me will I watch it again next year, I will answer YES without a skip of a heart beat even without knowing who will be featured in the productions.

9 performances left till 19 March 2017, tickets can be purchased from www.sportshubtix.sg, with family friendly tickets starting at $25 online.
If you were to ask me if I will go next year’s edition, I will go without a skip of a heartbeat as long as my kids have not grown out of it! I am sure one day my boys especially will say they no longer wanna watch Disney but some rock concerts…till then, my family will be regulars at Disney on Ice every year!

Giveaway: Olive Oil Skincare Company – natural goodness in skincare and bodycare (for everyone in the household)

I have always been in search for the most natural skin care and body care for my kids. What about for myself? I am not loyal to any particular body care or skin care range. But due to a recent scare of flare up (which never happen to me before and I am the one in the family without skin sensitivities or allergy), I have been very careful in the selection of skincare and body care. And for my older kids with no or minimal sensitive skins, I hope to be able to share the same bottle of  body shampoo or hair shampoo with them. But I am sure what I am using now it is a bit too harsh for their skin and scalp.

There are 2 ingredients that I put on high regards – coconut oil and olive oil during my search to cure my kids eczema and skin sensitivities. I remember once I actually purchased pure coconut oil to apply on C’s dry skin in the bid to prevent her flare-ups. As it wasn’t a skin care per say, application and usage has not been ideal and it ended in my kitchen. At that point in time, I have not heard of 100%  coconut oil based skin care or 100% olive oil based skin care products.

I knew that I had to give the wonderful products from Olive Oil Skincare Company a try even though C’s eczema is under control and has not flare up much in recent months and also an alternative for my own skincare.

Manufactured in Australia , using olive grove situated in a totally pollution free environment, the closest town is 30km away with about 200 inhabitants. The olives are grown in the cleanest of air imaginable. Hence, the products from Olive Oil Skincare company are suitable for all skin ages from babies right, sound like something for me and my older kids.

Introducing some of their bestsellers

Soothing balm – Original (SGD 26.90)

I am currently using another brand of balm for all skin’s ailments, I find it a chore to have a remedy for each and every skin’s problem. I loveeedddd quick fixes in 1 bottle just like this balm. Sometimes, the kids just feel skin discomfort and I couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause of it, so i just reach out for the safest remedy – my soothing balm as it is gentle even on baby skin and yet it is effective.

Especially when I am on travel mode, I loved to bring all purpose balm for all emergencies – rash, bites, skin discomfort, diaper rash, dry skin, etc instead of carrying differing tubes of oilment. I am now using Olive Oil Skincare soothing balm which has been created to cure any skin discomfort. When its an insect bite, a dry skin, or even on chapped lips! It works wonder for my kids and myself too. I have been reaching out for the balm for any skin discomfort.

I do hope they can sell in smaller tubs too for travel purposes because the tub is a tad too big for travelling purpose. Of course I could always scoop into travel tubs for travelling purposes too!

Soap – unscented and goat’s milk (SGD 9.90)

My husband is as traditional as one can get. He doesn’t like to use body shampoo. I once heard a comment in those days when our parents were using soap bars, we seldom hear of skin sensitivities and eczema. I did use soap bars growing up too. And my husband still uses it now , so old school!

And there is another person in my household uses soap bar too. In bid to keep C’s eczema at bay and under control, I made a point to her to natural soap bar (made with no preservative) and some of my breastmilk soap bars that I made previously. And so far, I am not sure if she has outgrown it or the soap is working wonderful for her. So I am always looking out for good quality soap for the 2 persons in the household that using soap bar. The idea of switching C from body shampoo to soap was during my kids’ soap making session with Soap Ministry when the owner shared how their zero-preservative soap was useful to cure her girl’s eczema.

I am open to using soap bar, however, human are creatures of habit and I am very happy using body wash, not because it gives me a cleaner wash (in fact, i feel using soap bar is cleaner) but I am used to body wash for most of my life. Habits die hard, so I probably won’t be using soap bar anytime soon.

So I was given 2 different soap bars to try – unscented and goats milk. One for each of them.

Finally, hubs get to try to do a product review for my blog. His comments (after using brandless soap bar, I really don’t know what old school brand he use) after using it for a few weeks:-

“It’s odourless and very organic yet cleanses well giving a refreshing after-shower feel.”

Ok, I shall supply him with this soap going forward instead of the nameless brandless , unknown content soap bar that he has been using for the longest time.

As for my girl, but frankly the goat milk didn’t really have much of a smell either.

I am assured that every block of soap is made with 100% Australian Extra Virgin Olive Oil. They do not contain palm oil, sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), preservatives, colouring agents or additives of any kind.

What assured me the most was when I was reading the content of the soap on their website, it mentioned that the soap has been shown to manage symptoms like eczema, I knew my method for managing’s C eczema was on a right track which means she will never use the body wash (except when on travel mode as it is really tough carry soap bar in my vanity case) .

Hair shampoo and conditioner  (SGD 32.90)

Finally I get to review some products on my own. First up, is the shampoo and conditioner combi from Olive Oil Skincare.

Currently, I am using hair products from the hair salons which are often burn a hold in my pocket. I am not loyal to any brand of hair shampoo as well.

Blended with Rose Geranium Essential Oil to provide a wonderful floral fragrance, I can smell the refreshing scent during my hair wash. I have been using it for a month now and I feel my hair is softer and more manageable and the biggest assurance I have is the products are all natural ingredients at very affordable prices too.

Face wash (SGD 26.90)

For my own face wash, I have been using a variety of brands. Once I had the cleanser that came with the Clarisonic facial brush and then sometimes I will just get my facial wash from my facial salon. I am not really fussy when it come to my facial wash as I think that my facial brush does the trick in giving me an effective wash. Hence, I am quite happy to use the Olive Oil face wash with my facial cleansing brush as well.  The Extra Virgin Olive Oil content provides nutrients, polyphenols and Vitamins A and E which promises to be super nourishing for my skin.

For the complete range of products including their baby range, please visit their website.

Their items can be also found at Vitakids outlets, 10 10 Mother and Child Essentials, Naiise and Maternity Exchange. For online order, you can purchase it from Agape babies, Naiise and Maternity Exchange and on their website as well.

Of the products that I have tried, I particularly liked the soap and the soothing balm. I will definitely reorder them for my household. Thanks to the kind sponsor, I have a set of Olive Oil Skincare Company goodies comprising two of my favourite products – Soothing balm and Soap bar to be given away to 1 lucky reader (Worth SGD 50).

Cold Storage Kids Run 2017 – 10th Anniversary (promo code off early bird included)

It’s back! Cold Storage Kids Run 2017 is back for its tenth year at a brand new location ….. Sentosa! And a new starting time of 7.15am. If you have been to previous races, the race timing can start as early at 6am for the older kids race on  Sunday. Its quite difficult to get the kids up so early on a weekend especially in different race categories and older kids who start the earliest! Especially when you have multiple kids, it’s a battle before the race begins!

Another first would be for family fun race, they are allowing 2 adults to 1 kid. Especially for single child family, it is a family event! I hope in future for big families like mine, they allow 2 kids to 1 adult too!

This will be our 3rd race (do you know there are kids who has ran in every one of their race, like all 9 of them, so I guess they must be born around 2005 to 2007 to participate in the race since they were infant and probably by now they are 10-12 years old participating in their final few CSKR race) but it is our first as a family!

I conveniently omitted small C for the recent Safari Zoo Run as I know he wouldn’t be able to last through 2.5km and he also wouldn’t sit through 2.5km.  For CSKR as the distance is shorter, and he will be close to 2 years of age during CSKR, I will be omitting the stroller entirely. All of us shall walk, run , saunter wantev needed be to accommodate small C. This will be his first ever run.

Can’t wait! Read all about our experience last year  in this link.

With my promo code (MPKREF17)  you can get 10% of the already discounted early bird prices! Valid from 6 to 10 March!
